What if...

I have serious doubts about this, but what if...?

What if James Cameron produced the bodies of Jesus, Mary, and Mary Magdalene? Would faith change? If it were conclusively proven that Jesus didn't rise from the dead, what would change about life?

That would be like asking the "Brain in the vat" question that Philosophy freshmen students get asked. What if you found out you were just a brain in a vat and everything you think to be true is just a social experiment carried out by a mad scientist.

Wrong questions...

What I really find amazing is that so many people are more concerned with proving or disproving Christ's holy nature than they are with the beauty of his message:

Love each other; don't kill each other; don't mess with each others families; honor your own body; serve your brothers and sisters; take care of the poor, the hungry, the suffering; be honest; don't cheat people, etc.

But who cares about that stuff? There is no controversy in that stuff? That won't get me any more attention or money!

Virgil: wasn't the theme of the Matrix too? :-)

God is faithful.
That is all I need to know.
My faith is built on things I can't see, not on things anyone can produce that I can see.
It's just that simple.
My life is better because of Him. That's all the fact and visual needed. For me anyway.

I understand what you are saying Tony. Yes, Jesus' teachings indeed changed the world. However, think about the effects of such a discovery for a minute.

No literal resurrection = no ascension.

No literal resurrection = no divine status.

No literal resurrection = no future Christian resurrection.

If it were indeed PROVEN that Jesus did not raise from the dead (which will never happen), Christianity would die.

I, on the other hand, question whether he was laid to rest in a tomb. The Romans used crucifixion as a way to deter unruly behavior. The bodies were left on the crosses so that birds and dogs would devour the remains. The victims were not hanging 20' in the air like most usually envision. They were close to the ground. If you were a Jew, you did not want to be crucified because your body could not be recovered for a proper burial. Archeaology has only found one body (among thousands) that showed evidence of crucifixion.

If He did not rise from the grave then my faith is vain and everything I've ever said or believed is a waste of time. It changes everything.
My view of God and what I preach and believe about Him is a lie.
And if He didn't come out of the tomb than I am to be pitied.

All of the above is paraphrasing Paul in 1 Corinthians 15. It's not the wrong question because it's one that has been around for 2000 years.

I'm with Scott. If there is no res, my entire life needs to be completely refocused.
