Dr. Amy Jill Levine

Last night, Otter Creek Church of Christ played host to Dr. Amy Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament at Vanderbilt Divinity School, who spoke on the issue of Jesus and women. It was a great discussion and Dr. Levine is a very skilled and knowledgeable teach that we were privileged to hear her.

She is also an orthodox Jew, which made it even more interesting. I've posted the talk at the Teaching the Kingdom podcast. Enjoy listening to it.

Phil, I'm so glad you recorded this! She was fascinating to listen to, especially given her perspective.

(Nice "voice from the heavens," by the way.)

One thing that many of you may not know is that while Phil is right in that she practices orthodox Judaism, she does not belive in God. What makes that even more interesting is that she is so complimentary of faith and people of faith.

I listened to Ms Levine last Sunday. She invited questions, mine was simply “Do you believe that Jesus was the Messiah”? Without apology, she replied no. And she is director of Christian Studies????

Personally, I find this alarming. I think that any church should preface her introduction with her self-described “Yankee Jewish Feminist” so that members will know what true agenda Ms Levine is promoting.
